Education

Juris Doctor (cum laude), The University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law, RIchmond, VA Bachelor of Arts, International Affairs (Political Science - honors, History, Geography, and Economics), The University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA

Experience

After practicing law for several years, I foudn my second calling in teaching. In total, I've taught at the secondary level for the last seven years, with one year at the college level (American Government). For the last five years, I've taught AP US History, US History, and Global Studies (a combination of world history, government, economics, and sociology). My student pass rate for the last 5 years has always greatly exceeded the national average. Last year alone, my student pass rate was 92%, with approximately 70% of those students earning 4's or 5's. I have always enjoyed tutoring and working with students on an individual basis. I actually started tutoring students while in college. I tutored law students while in law school and of course, regularly tutor students now that I am a full-time teacher. My best moments come when I see my students succeed and reach levels they never thought possible.

Hobbies

When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy traveling, reading, and watching a good movie. Raising 2 kids, including one with special needs, I have an intimate understanding of the need for and importance of individualized instruction. With the current state of our educational system, even the most effective teachers can not always meet every individual at their current level of academic, social, and intellectual development despite the best of intentions. Sometimes it takes a one-on-one approach for students to attain their full potential. I commend those parents who see tutoring as a step for growth and goal attainment, not necessarily just for remediation. In this highly competitive world, we must be advocates for our children, playing active roles in their education. Tutoring is not something to be ashamed of, rather, its a positive step towards achieving one's highest potential.
